Who We Are

One family, gathered around the Gospel.

Welcome to Peniel Ethiopian Evangelical Church. We are committed to glorifying God through biblical teaching, passionate worship, prayer, discipleship, and loving our community. Whether you are visiting for the first time or searching for a church family, you are warmly welcomed.

Our Story

Peniel Ethiopian Evangelical Church was formed in September 1997. The initial congregation was made up of 17 people. The members of the church had met up in Hamilton Park, located in the northern part of Columbus, Ohio, for a Bible-study-like gathering. Through God's hand, we have been able to continue on as a church, growing stronger.

Who We Are

We are mainly Ethiopian immigrants and Ethiopian Americans who gather in Columbus, Ohio to worship our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Our goal is to preach the gospel, make disciples, and wait in fellowship for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We receive as our brothers and sisters all who believe in Jesus Christ, as well as guests and visitors who are not Christians.

What We Believe

Our Statement of Beliefs

01

We believe in one God – existing in the community of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

02

We believe God is the creator of mankind and of all things, visible and invisible.

03

We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son and Savior of the world.

04

We believe in the Holy Spirit that dwells within every Christian.

05

We believe the Bible is composed of 66 books and is the inspired and inerrant Word of God and the final authority for all matters of faith.

06

We believe that mankind, created by God, willfully sinned, and as a result, is lost and without hope. Mankind's only hope and salvation is from Jesus Christ.

07

We believe that death seals the eternal destiny of each person. The saved will inherit eternal life; the unsaved, eternal separation from God.

08

We believe that salvation comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

09

We believe that the church is the body and bride of Christ – consisting of all born again believers in Jesus Christ everywhere.

10

We believe marriage is ordained by God as the union between one man and one woman.

11

We believe in participating in the Lord's Supper (communion) on a regular basis.

What Guides Us

Mission, vision, and values.

Three commitments that shape everything we do, from Sunday worship to how we care for our neighbors.

Our Mission

Our mission is to reconcile nations to God so that they would serve Him, and to make Christ-like disciples of them through the declaration of the Gospel that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead and was glorified in heaven — guiding and preparing them for the glorious appearing of Christ, the King. (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; 5:42; 2 Cor. 5:18-20; Phil. 1:9-11)

Our Vision

Our vision is to see a generation that is established on Jesus Christ (who was raised from the dead by the glory of God the Father), built up by the Word of God, filled with the fruit of righteousness, and worthy of His Kingdom. (Matt. 16:15-19; Rom. 6:3-5; Col. 3:16; Phil. 1:9-11)

Core Values

The convictions we return to every day, together.

Ministries for every season of life.

Wherever you are in your walk, there's a place for you to serve, grow, and build friendships.

Plan Your Visit

Coming for the first time?

Here is everything you might wonder about before Sunday — what language the service is in, where to park, and what happens with your children.

What language is the service?

Most Sundays the main service is in Amharic, with live English translation available so you can follow along. On the first Sunday of every month the main service is in English. Youth and children meet in English every Sunday.

What about my children?

Bring them along. Children's classes run every Sunday, from nursery age upward, so there is somewhere ready for every age — and they are taught in English.

Where do I park?

There is a large parking lot right beside the building, just off York Rd SW. Park anywhere you like — there is no charge and no permit needed.

What should I wear?

Whatever you feel is right for church. Some dress up, some come casually, and nobody will look at you twice either way.

How long does it last?

Congregational prayer begins at 10:00 AM and worship runs from 10:30 AM until about 12:45 PM. Come for the whole morning or just the service — either is welcome.

Where are you?

Pataskala Prayer House, 5457 York Rd SW, Pataskala, OH 43062. Sunday worship meets here.

Membership at Peniel means more than a name on a roster — it's a commitment to grow together, serve together, and carry one another through every season of life. It's how you move from visiting to belonging.

What happens after you apply

  1. 1 You fill in a short form Your name, how to reach you, and who is in your household. It takes a few minutes.
  2. 2 A church leader reads it It goes straight to the church office — not to a mailing list, and not anywhere outside the church.
  3. 3 Someone gets in touch To welcome you properly, answer your questions, and walk you through what comes next.
